Picture Personal Ads - Who is Really Behind the Photo?

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

By Savanah Douglas If there is one complaint that I hear more often than others when it comes to online dating it’s that it is hard to really trust the pictures that you see in the other dater’s personal profile. Often it turns out that the picture that you see in the picture personal ads is flattering at least and sometimes they are so doctored that it should be a felony. How do you really know who the person on the other side of the computer screen really is without putting yourself in an uncomfortable meeting situation. Well there isn’t really any 100% foolproof way of telling who the person really is, they often will leave a few telltale signs for you to pick up. The first thing that you should look for when browsing through the picture personal ads is for multiple pictures. It’s nice to see someone that is attractive, and sometimes I enjoy looking through the pictures just for this, but if you are serious about finding Mr. Right or Mrs. Perfect then you better dig a little deeper than the surface. If the person has multiple pictures then it’s easier to tell if some photographic fakery has taken place. Another way that you can see if the person is really who they appear to be on the screen is (and this is done after you have contacted them a few times through the dating service) is to request a very specific picture from them, one that they would have to take just for you. It’s never easy to know exactly who you are talking with, but it’s easier when you know that the pictures that you see are a good representation of the person on the other side of the screen. Can A Window Covers Improve A Homes Value And Its “Curb” Appeal?

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

By David Blachley A homes windows covering are now getting a lot more attention from the neighbors and home appraisers when shutters are installed. Shutters are proving to be a better window treatment, due to the fact they are the only window treatment to increase a homes value and are a major visual element additive on the inside and the outside of the home. Shutters also control the lighting and set mood for each room. Most interior designers feel that shutters provide a finished look to a window and they are more durable than draperies, curtains or blinds. More than ever before, homes with shutters are recognized as substantially upgraded and thus shutters are the number one window covering all other products. The shutter category is the number one window covering product in recent years. Surveys have shown that 7 out of 10 consumers prefer shutters over any other type of window covering, however only 2 out of 10 can afford them due to the high price. Shutter offers many advantages over blinds and curtains. Shutters offer superior insulative and control of light entering a room, varying from opening the shutters all the way for a full view to fully closed for an almost blackout control. Shutters in general are lower maintenance than most other types of window covering. Older style shutters with staples require replacement every few years and special cleaning and upkeep, synthetic vinyl and Polywood materials can withstand wet environments such as outdoor use and saunas. In recent years a laminate DuraShutter material with snap-in non staple construction provides durability and low cost alternative advantages. Shutters can provide a better insulation value than any other type of window covering. Since 10 times more heat can pass through a glass window than through wall adding a shutter to your window will lower your heating and air conditioning bills. Shutters are commonly made from 3 different types of materials. Each type has its own strengths and weaknesses as well as environmental effects. Traditional shutter manufacturers use wood and then spray paint or stain them to just about any color you desire and they perform well under most conditions. Like any wood product they are subject to warping over time and the paint can peal and crack over time. Unfortunately, some woods are imported and the harvesting of some trees causes harm to the environment. In addition most shutters are painted using lacquer based primers and or finish paints that release VOCs into the atmosphere. VOCs have been proven to increase green house gases. Vinyl and Poly foam shutters were developed as an alternative to wood shutters. For certain applications such as outdoors, high humidity areas like saunas or poolrooms vinyl or Poly foam shutters are an excellent choice. The plastic coating used in these types of shutters can fade, change color or yellow over time with exposure to the sun. Unfortunately, vinyl and Polywood shutters are made with oil products and the drilling, transport, refining and storage of oil based products are a concern to many as their use increases our dependency on oil, and when painted, the use of VOC is also harmful to the environment. Many shutter fabricators are now, as flooring companies do, are offering Eco friendly lower cost laminate alternatives to wood. Many American and foreign shutter fabricators now offer all three choices, Plastic/foams, Wood and Laminate materials. Laminate materials are designed to overcome the disadvantages of wood, vinyl and Polywood shutters. Laminate DuraShutter material is a dense, solid engineered composite that is an Eco friendly recycled wood and paper product. Its density gives it a better insulation value than wood and the Eco friendly laminate coating material provides better resistance to fading or yellowing than Polywood or vinyl. Laminate shutters can be made into an excellent product that is indistinguishable from wood shutters. Since laminate DuraShutter is primarily made from recycled materials and the finish from Eco friendly laminates, it has a significantly lower impact on the environment. Shutters are often referred to as “the ultimate window covering” but costly until the introduction of shutters made of lower cost laminate DuraShutter materials that many shutter fabricators are now offering as a lower cost alternative. So once you’ve added indoor shutters, just stand back and admire them, both from within your home and from your curb. Drive by any home with interior shutters across the front and you’ll see why so many people swear by them. David Blachley is a third generation inventor with 20+ years product development experience, engineering multifaceted vertical integration systems with an emphasis in cost reduction technologies. After 10+ years in development DuraShutter is my greatest achievement. Its the lowest cost, most maintenance free, Eco friendly shutter brand on the planet. Green Card: Don’t Pay to Get One!

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

By Dave Taylor It’s amazing. The very first spam ever sent was from a couple of lawyers who offered to help people get a Green Card if they paid the law firm a small fee. A Green Card, for those of you that don’t know, is a proof of permanent resident alien status from the feared Immigration and Naturalization Service and.. it’s free, if you qualify. So you don’t need to pay anyone for anything. Even better, the document required is pretty simple to fill out. If it’s free and easy to fill out, why are there still lawyers selling their service to aid in receiving a Green Card? Here’s what the Federal Trade Commission has to say about Green Card scams:If you or someone you know is trying to get a green card - the right to live in the United States permanently - be on the lookout for unscrupulous businesses and attorneys. They’ll claim that, for a fee, they can make it easier to enter the U. S. State Department’s annual Diversity Visa (DV) lottery (also known as the “green card lottery”) or increase your chances of winning the DV lottery. Each year, the State Department conducts a lottery through its DV program to distribute applications for 50,000 immigrant visas. Winners of the lottery have a chance to apply for an immigrant visa, which can be used to enter the U. S. Winners are selected randomly, and there is no fee to enter the lottery.”If you’re interested in applying for a Green Card, you should just go straight to the U.S. Department of State’s dvlottery.state.gov site and apply! The FTC continues with this warning:Green Card Lottery Scams According to lawyers at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation’s consumer protection agency, some businesses and attorneys misrepresent their services by saying that: they are affiliated with the U.S. government; they have special expertise or a special entry form that is required to enter the lottery; their company has never had a lottery entry rejected; their company can increase an entrant’s chances of “winning” the lottery; people from ineligible countries still are “qualified” to enter the lottery. In addition, some companies jeopardize an entrant’s opportunity to participate in the lottery by filing several entries. These companies also may charge lottery-winning applicants substantial fees to complete the application process.”So be smart. Go to the State Department directly and sidestep all these snake oil salesmen. Dave Taylor has been involved with the Internet since 1980 and has written sixteen books. Domestic Cleaning Advice: Computer Cleaning

Monday, November 12th, 2007

By Ispas Marin The computer you use can get pretty dirty sometimes and that might reduce it’s performance and reduce it’s life time so here is some advice on how you can clean it up. The computer won’t be well cleaned if you’ll use alcohol cleaners, you’ll need to use a hard surface cleaner, in concentrated solution in warm water. Cleaning the case You’ll need a cloth that you’ll wrung in the solution you chose. Use this cloth to wipe the casing and all the external parts (cabling, keyboard). Make sure you wash the cloth since the soil will be considerable. Excess water shouldn’t be used and try not to let water go into the vents of the case. You will be able to clean between the keyboard keys by using damp cloth pushed between the keys with toothpicks. The following actions need to be taken every six months.Cleaning actions that should be taken periodically, every six months You’ll need to open the case and remove all the dust from it and from the vents. You’ll need to be very care full while cleaning inside the case. You can use the vacuum cleaner but be sure the motor is far from the computer and it’s components. Also, you should earth yourself by touching any metal object that you know it’s earthed, like a radiator. You should vacuum the vents of the casing and the keyboard. The keyboard is a place where a lot of dust and rubbish collects, the amount might surprise you. Keeping the dust away from the vents of the case and the coolers inside it you’ll prevent overheating the computer that leads to damaging the components. Also, it’s not a good thing to push the dust out of the computer, it’s just going to stay in your room and will eventually get back in the computer Mouse cleaning The mouse can be cleaned by removing the ball and dusting inside, remove stray food and human or dog hairs from around the rollers. You’ll have to keep the mouse dry, everything has to be scraped out. That’s just a small bit of advice meant to help you keep your computer clean, it’s a good thing to get your computer to a professional cleaning service for better cleaning. Hydrangea Forever & Ever Red

Sunday, November 11th, 2007

By Alan Summers The First Red Hydrangea that Blooms on New Growth! 2006 has had an incredible number of outstanding plant introductions and its only February. This week we are featuring yet another new plant sure to be a standout for years to come - Hydrangea Forever & Ever Red. A sport of the original Forever & Ever, this large mophead is the first red hydrangea that blooms on new growth! The brilliant red flowers top the burgundy stems and mature to wonderful shades of purple. The plant habit is compact, maturing to only 4 feet tall and wide. Repeat Blooms on a Compact Plant If you are a lover of the Endless Summer, this is a must have for your spring garden. Like it’s parent, the original Forever & Ever, Forever & Ever Red appears to have all of the qualities of the Endless Summer Hydrangea that gardeners have fallen in love with. It blooms repeatedly on both old and new wood, ensuring that your hydrangea will be covered in beautiful blooms throughout the season - proven reliably winter hardy to Zone 4 (minus 30 degrees) tested in Michigan. Also, Hydrangea Forever & Ever Red is reportedly unaffected by soil PH. The color should be red changing to purple in all soils. Being overly cautious, in really acid soils I suggest adding a couple of handfuls of lime when planting. From what we have seen and heard, Forever & Ever has many qualities that quite possibly may make it superior to Endless Summer (if that is possible!), including: Larger blossom clusters Larger individual florets with frilled petal edges More compact growth habit by, about a foot Waxy, leathery leaves Planting and Care For best results plant early Spring to late Summer Perform best in moist, but not wet, soil. Add Soil Moist if you think the soil is too dry Prefers an area with morning sun and afternoon shade Plant so the top of the root ball is a half-inch below the surface of the soil Mulch with two-three inches of organic mulch Use a handful of Bulb-Tone fertilizer at planting and again in late November and early March Can be cut back in Spring or Summer or die to the ground in Winter and still have many blooms the next season Remove the spent blooms as they fade and watch the plant continue to bloom all summer long Click here to view Hydrangea Forever & Ever Red on the Carroll Gardens website. Rubber Stamps in Wet Plaster Create Dynamite Wall Finishes

Sunday, November 11th, 2007

By Victoria Larsen A super twist on Raised Plaster Stenciling” that’s easy to do and leaves a great “impression”; Rubber stamps pressed in to the wet plaster.Where Raised Plaster Stenciling creates a design that stands out from the wall, using rubber stamps pressed in to wet plaster creates indentations that give a really different look that creates awesome shadows. There are literally millions of rubber stamp designs in your local craft store, rubber stamp specialty shop or on the Internet that you can choose to create your own designer walls. Choose a large design so that it shows up well on your wall. Consider plant elements such as ferns, leaves, flower heads and so on. Or get crazy and combine a number of designs. If you have high gloss or semi-gloss wall paint currently on your wall, prime with water based primer first. All other paint types need no pre-preparation. Using a wide, flat blade plastic scraper (found in the paint section of your local home or hardware store), smooth an even coat of joint compound (about 1/8″ thick over a 3×3 foot section. Thicker joint compound may result in a blurred impression) on to the wall. Once the area has been covered, randomly stamp your design, pressing it in to the joint compound. You have about 30 minutes before the joint compound begins to dry so take your time and have a blast. Turning the stamp in different directions creates a beautiful “wallpaper” effect.Since the joint compound dries so slow, if you dont like the placement of what you stamped, simply smooth it over and do it again. Its very forgiving. Complete the wall in 3 x 3 sections for a full wall effect. If you only want a border of your chosen design, simply run a line of masking tape at the top and bottom of your chosen border depth and apply joint compound to only that area. Stamp your border as you choose. Allow the joint compound to dry completely and to cure for 48 hours before finishing with wall color.A very light coat of water based primer will seal the raw joint compound and prepare it for further color. Be careful not to allow the primer or paint to pool inside the design or you will risk loosing some of its detail. To color the design, either paint over it with standard wall paint or simply add wall paint in your favorite color to translucent wall glaze until the desired level of color is achieved. Working in 3′ x 3′ sections, wipe the glaze mixture over the wall, paying close attention to the design, then immediately wipe or blot it off (depending on the look you like) with a dry rag or sponge. Enjoy your designer walls and revel in the fact that you have something totally unique and hand done by you! Preventing Stretch Marks: An Ounce of Prevention is Worth a Pound of Cure

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

By Low Jeremy Stretch marks are never a pretty sight. They may cause insecurities among those that have them – especially women. Unfortunately, unlike other types of scars and skin imperfections, stretch marks are pretty hard to get rid of. Given this, it certainly follows that stretch marks are better avoided than treated. And in this case, the old adage certainly applies: an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Stretch marks are formed when the skin around an area is stretched beyond its elasticity. This then causes the skin to produce collagen on the stretched skin to cope. When the area then returns to its normal size, the stretched skin plus collagen form a purplish scar like formation that look pretty much like a keloid. This condition is common among mothers since their skin around the hips, tummy and thighs suddenly expand during pregnancy. Since the skin cannot cope with the stretching that then takes place, stretch marks form. However, stretch marks are not exclusive to mothers, they also occur in people that suddenly gain weight, and people with dry skin or skin that is not elastic. Here are a few ways to prevent stretch marks from forming and some commonly available treatments to combat this skin condition. 1. Moisturizers. For people with dry skin moisturizers are a must to avoid stretch marks. If the skin lacks elasticity, the body is more likely to produce extra collagen and form the stretch mark. Shea butter has been proven to be a great intensive moisturizing treatment. You could also help moisturize your skin by refraining from wiping yourself vigorously with a towel after a shower. What you should do is gently pat your skin dry in the bath. Better yet, you could pat yourself slightly and let the moisture seep into your skin and evaporate naturally. You could also spray on moisturizing oil while you are glistening moist in the bath. 2. Diet. A proper diet makes the body healthy. That includes the skin as well. While you may not really notice it, the secret to glowing, supple, elastic skin is proper diet and hydration. Make sure you take a good amount of water everyday to keep yourself from being dehydrated. If you are dehydrated, then your skin suffers as well. Also avoid diuretics and other substances that could harm your skin. Coffee and caffeinated drinks are some of the greatest offenders against skin health –so are tea, smoking, and other substances that cause dehydration and poor blood oxygen levels. Gorge on vegetables and fruits that are high in vitamins A, C, and E, which are powerful antioxidants that can help reverse the effects of free-radicals on your skin. Moreover, such vitamins help keep smooth and healthy skin and reduce the chance that stretch marks could appear. 3. Exercise and Massage. Exercise helps promote better circulation and overall skin health. More blood means better nutrition for the skin. And better nutrition for the skin is healthier, suppler skin that is less likely to develop stretch marks. Massage also helps keep the skin supple; coupled with massage oils, could increase the elasticity of the skin. ConclusionWhile maintaining healthy skin certainly improves your chances against developing stretch marks, it pays to remember that this skin condition is also affected by many factors such as genetics, some ailments, and environmental factors. But with healthier skin, you can at least reduce the incidence of stretch marks dramatically. This content is provided by Low Jeremy and may be used only in its entirety with all links included. A Recipe for Romance

Wednesday, November 7th, 2007

By Andrew Marx Cooking together at home is a great idea for a romantic evening. The emphasis on food in our lives makes cooking a great aphrodisiac for most of us. Two lovers in the kitchen, passing ingredients back and forth, flipping steaks and baking French bread to a crunchy brown crust. Boiling edamame for an appetizer and popping the cork on a new bottle of red wine, and then sitting down with a heaping plate of steaming hot food. The variations are endless, but you can see the appeal. The cooking is the anticipation, and the payoff is not only the meal, but a lovely evening with your date. I am practical cook, too. I believe in simple recipes, easy clean-up and a well-balanced meal. If you know in advance a romantic dinner is pending, marinating the meat or fish overnight is a simple way to get a flavorful main dish without a lot of fuss. Some salad dressings do work as a marinade, but make sure they are complementary flavors. And in this case, I do not mean complementary as in a faithful companion to what else you might be serving, but complementary as in, does not taste like death after soaking in the meat overnight. Soy sauce also works well as a marinade. Easy clean-up usually means putting foil on anything that goes in the oven, so you can rip the foil off after dinner and toss it, and the baking pan is clean. My kitchen is pretty non-stick as a rule, and after dinner, I soak everything. It serves a dual purpose; you do not spend your entire evening at the sink washing dishes, and if you forget about them, you do not spend the entire next morning trying to scrap the caked leftovers off of your pots. In the early stages of dating, I like to avoid starches because it can make some people feel bloated or heavy. Pasta can be a beautiful dinner, but you have to know how you and your date are going to react to it because nothing kills a romantic evening like suddenly developing a three-pound ball in your stomach. For romantic evenings, too much of any one flavor is counterproductive. Remember, small portions, a variety of flavors and lots of colors. Fresh vegetables, washed and cut, can do amazing things to stimulate your senses. Depending on you and your dates tastes; green or red peppers, carrots, or even cucumber slices. Works great with dip or just on their own. Instant healthy side dish that meets all three criteria. It is really important to follow up dinner with a dessert. Whether it is a small square of chocolate just to kill the lingering taste of dinner, or something more elaborate for later in the evening, be prepared. Lets face it, we are creatures born and bred screaming for our sugar fix, and it elevates the mood. My recommendation is have something on hand and then if you never make it to the dessert course, most will keep for another day. —Andrew Marx writes articles on topics including personal finance and relationships, emphasizing a practical and informed approach to his ideas. Patent Pending: What Does It Mean?

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

By Lisa Parmley Many companies begin manufacturing and selling their new product (a.k.a. their invention) to the marketplace before their patent is officially granted. They use the term patent pending to indicate that the product is proprietary and a patent is (just like the term states), pending. The only way you (or any company) can ever legally use the term patent pending is when a patent application has been filed to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Any person or company who falsely uses this term can be fined. So take care to only use it when it is true. During this patent pending time period, the USPTO will keep the application under wraps. No one outside the Patent Offices walls will have access to it. The Patent Office does, however, publish most applications 18 months after the application filing date. Any member of the public may request a copy of the application once its been published. But, take note, if your application is granted, your invention will have been protected ever since the date you filed your application. As you can see, the patent system is set up so that you can actually begin manufacturing and marketing your invention immediately after you file your application. Many companies spend massive amounts of money developing their new products. So it makes sense for them to apply for their patent as soon as possible and begin marketing their product immediately. In this manner, they can ‘milk’ their patent monopoly for the longest amount of time possible. A utility patent usually only lasts 17 years from the date the patent application was filed, so theres really no use letting that time go to waste. You may or may not need to use the term patent pending. If you are waiting until your patent is actually granted to market your invention, then you may as well forego the term patent pending. Instead, once your patent is granted, you may use your official patent number along with your product and any promotional information related to it. Please review www.PatentYourInventions.com to learn more about patenting and marketing your invention. Lisa A.
