Sony Ericsson K610i - 3G, But With Two Sides

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Rales_Murphy]Rales Murphy A key manufacturer when it comes to making mobile phones that are both functional and technologically stylish, Sony Ericsson have built a solid reputation amongst today’s users. With their K610i, however, as much as they should be applauded for making 3G more affordable, it’s at the expense of some of the features we’ve come to expect from this brand. However, there are still a lot of positives about this little phone, not least the size for a 3G handset. Measuring only 102 mm high, with a width of 45 mm and only 17 mm deep, this is perhaps one of the smallest 3G mobile phones on the market, especially since it weighs only 92 grammes, making it compact enough for even the smallest bag or pocket. One of the changes Sony Ericsson has made to the K610i over previous models is that it has disposed of the centre joystick and replaced it with a little four-direction keypad instead. This makes it far better to navigate menus with, as the joystick did often wander all over the place on other models, especially if you were travelling. The screen is a good size with excellent clarity, and is an added bonus when used to focus pictures on the 2.0 mega pixel camera, which is useful as there is no flash feature supplied. Since this is a straightforward handset, all the buttons are under or around the screen, but don’t look cluttered because of this. With shortcut buttons for Internet access, back and calls, as well as camera and music, the K610i is a very simple piece of kit to use. Although supporting MP3 music files, unfortunately the K610i doesn’t come supplied with headphones, like they do with Sony Ericsson’s W-series. However, there is a loudspeaker that you can use instead. There are two games installed on the phone to keep you entertained, including a rather snazzy tennis game in full 3D. With this being a 3G phone, Internet support is excellent, with HTML and Wap able to be viewed quickly and easily. There is also a rather cool RSS Reader with the phone, so you can keep up-to-date with your favourite blog subscriptions. The only things that stop this phone from being a top-notch entry into the 3G field are minimal, but important. The memory is only 16MB of internal, and a further 64MB on the provided memory card. However, with the 3G aspect of the K610i, this will soon be filled, so you’re going to need to upgrade your card. The other thing is that the web browser can often encounter problems with more graphical pages, which for a 3G handset is a definite disadvantage. However, with the battery offering up to 7 hours talk time, or two and a half when using the 3G network, as well as a pretty generous four days standby time (especially for a 3G handset) and the features that the K610i offers, as well as the size and relative inexpensive price point, Sony Ericsson have once again made a mobile phone for the masses. Joining the Military? (You Better Think Twice)

Monday, January 28th, 2008

By Zach Bashore For some reason many bodybuilders join the military. Is it for the money, the patriotism for their country, or is it just a job that keeps you in shape? These are just a few of the reasons but the real question is why would would you want to do such a thing? The military is NOT a place to be wandering around in. You have to have a motive to be there or you`re going to regret ever signing up. During training, you sometimes go days without sleep, food, and even water. You`re almost guaranteed to overtrain sometime, not only during basic, but during the extreme lifestyle you`ll be living fighting in a war. Talk about being in catabolic mode. This is the exact opposite of what us bodybuilders need to be doing. When you`re in the military, you no longer exist as an individual. You belong to whatever branch of service you`re in and are basically consider a number. Bodybuilding is the exact opposite. In this sport, almost everything you do is by yourself and most of us don`t depend on other people like you do in the service. Most Bodybuilders are also very nice people. We may look mean but most of us act very humbly around others. People from all areas of life join the military. Some do it as an escape from their troubled lives, some because of their financial status, and many other reasons. What some don`t realize is what the military is all about. People are dying simutaneously in Iraq and you are risking your lives if you join. You also have to consider the fact you`re going to be away from your family and friends and will be around new people that you probably won`t even like. I`m not trying to keep you from joining but I don`t want you guys to make the same stupid mistake I did. We are more than slaves to the government. We are slaves to ourselves and that is how it should be. Now don`t get me wrong. If you`ve joined for your country I have nothing but respect and I salute you. Until my next article. PEACE! Getting In The Habit Of Meeting Women

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

By Teddy Shabba When a man complains that he has a hard time meeting women it generally means they are not in the habit of meeting women but in the habit of avoiding women. Whereas a woman who says she has a hard time meeting men generally means she doesn’t get hit on a lot. Men meet women because most women don’t want a man who doesn’t have the balls to come up and meet her himself. Women like confidence and if you aren’t even confident enough to introduce yourself, well then what good are you to a woman. Of course lots of men aren’t in the habit of meeting women because the only ones that you want to meet and talk to are the ones that you like. Yet, you don’t meet and talk to them since you don’t have any previous history of meeting and talking with women. What makes it even harder is when someone gives you the advice of talking to her as if you were not attracted to her at all, which means for you it is not talking to her at all since you don’t talk to women you aren’t attracted to, but you wont admit it since that would make you appear to be more shallow than you want people to know. So the solution to your problem is quite simple in order to get in the habit of meeting women you must make a conscious effort to meet and talk to women who you don’t find attractive and continue to not talk to women you find attractive. In fact you should see just how far you can push the conversation with unattractive women till you get them to give you their phone # without asking. Once you get this down I still want you to not talk to attractive women, but, instead begin pretending that women you find attractive are some of the unattractive women you talked to before and talk to her as such. Gourd Enthusiasm Growing Around the World

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

By Martha Bloom Gourds played an essential role in the daily life of early cultures. Commonly used as containers and vessels, they were also used for musical instruments. Some cultures used gourds for birdhouses and feeders and this is what most people today think of when they hear the word gourd. Or maybe you can remember a dipper made out of a gourd at Grandmas house years ago. Now artists and crafts people have discovered a new medium to develop their creativity. Im not sure when the gourd craze officially started but it worked its way into my life about eight years ago by way of an article in a gardening magazine. It looked interesting and so that spring I decided to grow a couple gourd plants. My first creations were, of course, birdhouses. Later, after some research and book purchases, the world of gourds exploded and I have found that the creative possibilities are limitless. Even if you cant come up with your own ideas there are a multitude of books and tutorials written by gourd artists and crafters explaining different techniques that can be done with gourds. Gourd craft is working its way into the hands of accomplished artists who have found the gourd to be an exciting new way to showcase their art. They are not just for crafters anymore. So now that you have gotten a little gourd enthusiasm of your own what comes next? Well, the gourd of course. Gourd growers and suppliers, once few and far between, are beginning to pop up everywhere. Many can be found on the internet. Gourds come in all shapes and sizes, from minis to giants. The name of the gourd can give you a clue about the shape, such as egg, cannonball, canteen, basketball, bottle and so forth. You get the idea. In order to work with the gourd it must be dry. If you happen to find gourds being sold in the fall at a farmers market they will most likely be freshly harvested. These will have to dry for a few months to a year or more depending on size. I personally dont like to purchase green gourds, as they are called, just in case they havent fully matured. Some growers new to the world of gourd craft dont understand the needs of the gourd artist. They are only concerned with growing gourds for fall decoration. A poorly grown gourd, instead of drying, may rot or have a shell too thin to work with. Im in favor of buying gourds that have already dried. This way surprises and disappointments can be reduced. You still may have a few along the way though. When gourds dry they produce a moldy skin that eventually dries on the gourd. This skin has to be removed before art work can begin. After the skin is removed you may discover some holes or warts on your gourd. Or during cleaning you might discover your hard gourd has turned soft once you got it wet. This is the sign of a thin shell. There are things that can be done with a thin shell but for the most part we look for gourds with thick, sturdy shells. To avoid these problems, look for cleaned, ready to craft gourds. These gourds have been cleaned for you. Cleaning is a messy job and you may not have the desire or area in which to do it yourself. So come and join in the fun and find out for yourself the addicting powers of the gourd. Martha Bloom: grower and crafter of gourds. Choosing an Online Dating Service

Friday, January 25th, 2008

By Caroline Mackenzie The problem with choosing a dating service is choice — too much of it! There are hundreds of services. To choose a dating service thats right for you, you need to be clear about what exactly youre looking for. As a newcomer to online dating, unfamiliar with all the options, you might be a little hazy on this front. Heres a rundown of the main areas in which dating services differ which will help you draw up a dating service wish list to compare sites to. Relationship options One of the most obvious things to think about when choosing a dating service is what kind of relationship(s) youre looking for. Some services, including top dating sites like Yahoo! Personals (singles dating) and eHarmony (soulmates) focus on one type of relationship only. The advantage of choosing a dating service thats dedicated to a particular type of relationship is that everyone will be on exactly the same page as you are in terms of intentions. If youre not clear what your intentions are, you might be better choosing a dating service where members can pursue different types of relationships within the same site. Again theres no shortage of choice. However, at some multi-relationship services its not immediately clear whos looking for what and up to you to figure it out, using the search tools. If this sounds like trouble (and it can be), choose a service like Lavalife which has separate communities within the site for each type of relationship. Members Think about the type of person you want to meet. Are you open-minded, in which case a mainstream service will be fine, or do you have a lengthy list of must haves regarding your perfect match? If you have set ideas about the type of person youd like to meet, finding them in a mainstream service could be like looking for the proverbial needle in a haystack. (By mainstream, I mean that members are as diverse as the general population.) Instead, consider choosing a relationship service that specializes in bringing people together who have something very specific in common — religion, political beliefs, ethnicity, body size, certain lifestyles, you name it. Simply run a search for dating (or matchmaking, or marriage) plus whatever youre looking for (vegetarian, republican, biker) and its almost certain youll find a relationship service to match. Matchmaking features Dating sites have thousands if not millions of members so good search tools are important. However, its still up to you search out your perfect match and not everyone has time for this. Luckily many dating services have matchmaking features (more sophisticated search tools) that will help you find the one quickly and easily. Matchmaking features range from the very simple, based on profiles and/or basic wish lists, to the sophisticated, based on personality and other tests as well as more detailed profiles and wish lists. Unless youre unusually picky (or just very unusual), these one-click options will typically churn up a good selection of possible matches on a regular basis — popular dating services attract many new members a day. You can usually opt to have these matchmaking searches run automatically on a regular basis and receive new match details by email — another time-saver. At some services, matchmaking features are part of a complete matchmaking service where the selection process is much stricter, usually because theyre geared towards serious relationships. Typically youll receive just a handful of potential partners over a length of time. For example, eHarmony (designed to help people into marriage) advises clients not to expect more than one or two matches a month. To accept this level of matchmaking you have to be happy with the idea of letting the experts have the final say about whos right for you and whos not. Tests Online dating services are about much more than dating. Theyre also an opportunity to gain some valuable insights into yourself and the type of person youre looking to meet which could help improve your love life, online and off. If this appeals to you, choose a dating service with personality and other tests for members to take. For the most part, larger, well established online dating services have the most insightful and detailed personality tests because they have more resources to put into their design. Almost all personality tests are free to take and at many sites matchmaking tools draw on the results to find members who are compatible with each other. So, by taking several tests and judging the results, youll get a good idea of which site is going to do the best job of helping you find your perfect match. After all, if the results are a true reflection of what youre like, theyll be a true reflection of potential matches too. Communications There are two levels of communication to consider when choosing a dating service — what you get for free and what you get as a paying member. On both fronts, some services offer a lot more than others. Free communications matter because they let you get to know someone, or at least that the interest is mutual, before you spring for a subscription. (A subscription will let you communicate as much as you like.) At most services, free communications are limited to flirty icons and preset messages that members send to each other, but search around. Some services are much more generous than others. Once you subscribe, the norm for communicating is by on-site email and instant messaging. Many of the top dating services, Yahoo! Personals included, have stuck with this simple set up and show no sign of changing any time soon. Others, like Match.com, are continuously adopting new technologies to offer members more communications options. Typically you’ll pay more so think about whether or not you really need to to be able to access their services anytime, anywhere. Entertainment Think about what sort of experience youd like to have with online dating services. Do you intend to focus on finding your perfect match or would you like to enjoy other activities as well? Many services offer entertainment features including light-hearted quizzes and polls, contests, articles and newsletters, as well as chat rooms and the option to sign up to meet new friends as well as dates. Offline activities If the idea of meeting someone online then having to meet them face-to-face at some stage is a little intimidating, look for a dating service that helps members meet and mingle, casually and as part of a group, offline too. Though some dating services go as far as offering singles holidays, offline activities usually involve meeting for concerts, shows and other events in your area or elsewhere. You can get that all-important feel for someone in relaxed atmosphere with plenty of food for conversation and make as much or as little of the occasion as you like. If you havent met someone yet, offline activities are an opportunity to meet someone you might like to continue chatting with online, with the advantage that youve already met. International dating If youre away from your native country, would like to chat in your native language or are planning to relocate or travel to a different country, some of the more established and successful online dating services have extended their services into countries other than the US. For example, Yahoo! Personals has a new Canadian service while Match.com is live in 27 different countries. Cost & Payment Options Most online dating services charge about the same for a subscription — between $20 and $25 a month — so cost isnt going to be much of a deciding factor when choosing a dating service. Instead, look for value — services might charge about the same but there are big differences in what you get for your money. Also, check out payment options. Several dating services accept money orders and checks as well as the usual credit cards. Find out what discounts will be available if you sign up for several months at once, and if any special offers are available. Finally on this one, look for free trials and try out all the extra subscriber features before committing to a subscription. More resources to help you choose a dating service When youve drawn up a checklist of what youd like in a dating service (and hopefully this article has helped) choosing a dating service will be a lot easier. You can compare your checklist to dating service reviews and, for more specific details, explore FAQs, help pages and take a tour options (all good dating services have these). And dont forget, signing up is free and you can usually explore sites without having to post a profile first. Most of all, though its important to choose a dating service thats right for you, one youll enjoy using and are mostly like to have success with, choosing a dating service should be fun. If one dating service doesnt work out for you, move on and choose another! Easy Sewing Pattern Alteration for Full Hips

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

By Bizhen Lu You might think so, but it could be one of two things: large hips or a small waist. A quick look in the mirror will tell the story. If your hips are large in proportion to the upper part of your body, then full hips are the problem. If your hips are in proportion to the upper part of the body, but the waist appears small, then the problem lies in your waist. If your waist is small, the garment’s waist can be reduced by increasing the width of darts and pleats. If your hips are large, the pattern needs to be increased at the side seam in the hip area. The biggest mistake a full-hipped individual makes is thinking that pants that are snug in the hips will hold in the hips, making them look smaller. This is not so! To camouflage a full hip, the garment actually needs to be looser so it won’t lock onto the fullness. Full hips are better in drapey fabric, in styles that are fuller at the hem, so that the hip appears smaller by comparison. For the alteration given here, you will need to know your full hip measurement, and how far down it is from your waist. FAST FIT SOLUTION Determine the alteration amount by comparing your full hip measurement plus ease to that of thesewing pattern measurement. Make an addition to each side seam at the hip, tapering out half of the addition by the bottom of the garment. A large addition may also require adding at the waist, so that the side seams will not wrinkle when pressed open. STEP-BY-STEP SOLUTION Measure the circumference of your full hip, and the distance it is from your waist. On the pattern, measure down the side seam the distance of your full hip, starting at the waistline seam. Mark this spot with an X. Then highlight the sizes that fit your measurements with a highlighter pen, making smooth transitions to the smaller size at the waist. At the spot marked with an X, draw a line across the pattern perpendicular to the grainline. 0n this line, measure between the seam-lines of your size on the front and back of your pattern. Compare the flat pattern measurement to your measurement plus ease. The difference is the total alteration amount. Divide this by four to determine the amount you need to add to each side seam at the hip. Make the side seam addition. Taper in only half of the addition by the bottom of the garment; tapering in the full addition will just emphasize the problem. If you’re adding a lotmore than 1/2 in. (1.3cm)at each side seam, you’ll also need to add to the waist. The extra at the waist can be taken out with wider darts or pleats. Make a gradual transition into the waist for a flattering silhouette; a curve that is too steep wrinkles when sewn in fabric and put on the body.FITTING TIPS The circumference at the bottom of a straight skirt or full pants can always be tapered in for a slimmer effect. But don’t overdo ittoo much tapering leaves the hips looking larger. If your garment has a pocket, there’s no need to add to the pocket facing or side front piece. The location of these pieces will move out with the addition. If you have to add a great deal at the hip, you will need to add some at the waist so that the curve at the side seam is not too pronounced. The waist can be reduced by increasing the size of the darts and the pleats. Bizhen Lu is a professional sewer. Why Use Chemicals On Your Skin, The Largest Organ In Your Body?

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

By Rose Lindy Skin, glorious skin! Did you know that skin is the largest organ in your body? This amazing hunk of skin on your body provides an incredible amount of protection for the rest of our innards. Our skin is like a warrior on the first line of defense. It protects us from infection and other gross environmental things AND regulates our body temperature. And yet, how do we treat this warrior? Usually not too well, but that is about to change if you switch to natural skin care. Our skin also had an incredible ability to absorb substances. Sometimes those are good things, sometimes they are bad things. We add to bad things being absorbed by our skin when we use chemical based products for skin care. Not only are the chemicals absorbed by your skin, but you actually can damage the structure of your skin with these harmful types of products. Now that you know what your skin is and how the wrong type of skin care product can damage your skin and your whole body, I am sure you will want to know how natural skin care can help. When you use natural products you are actually using a regimen of natural skin care healing. What this means is that you are using products that will help to rejuvenate, nurture and in essence, heal our skin. So you want to be aware of what is in the products you are using. Thankfully, because natural skin care has become so popular, you will have no problems finding something that works for you and that you can afford. Here are some tips on what to look for when you begin to shop for natural skin care healing products. Anything with mineral oil will be heavy and will clog your pores so avoid mineral oil. Anything that contains natural flower or herb oils will be good because it is a much lighter oil and will not clog your pores. Products containing aloe vera are good for refreshing your skin, especially skin that has been sun damaged. Aloe vera is also great for scars and wrinkles because it stimulates cell growth. Any product that has rose in it will not only moisturize and sooth your skin but it will purify and cleanse your skin as well. A great healing herb is lavender. Any product that has lavender will stimulate the skin’s healing process. This is great to use anywhere that you have an imperfect spot of skin and, like aloe vera, is also soothing to a burn. Chamomile not only makes a great tea, but it is great to help your skin’s natural healing process along. If you use chamomile you will find that puffiness and redness will decrease and you will have soft skin. These are just a few natural ingredients and their benefits. You should do your own research and find out what will work best for you. Just remember that your skin if very important and a vital piece in the overall health of your body. If your skin isn’t healthy it will let more harmful substances into your body and this will affect your general health. Isn’t it amazing how the body works together to keep you healthy and fit?! White Orchids

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

By Steve Valentino Orchids get their name from the Greek word “orchis”, which means testicle. Orchids have over 17000 species and come in variety of pure colors and combinations. White is the color associated with purity, virtue, and innocence. Hence, white adds a hint of elegance and glam to the orchid flower. Orchids collectively form a family called Orchidaceae, which account for nearly thirty thousand members of the plant kingdom. These flowers grow mainly in the tropics although species are found everywhere except in arid dessert regions. They have been largely domesticated for their monetary value and the orchid trade is today one of the largest profitable botanical vocations in the world. Most of the orchids that are sent across the planet originate in South America, Central America, and Tropical Asia. Many of the species that are part of this trade are being hybridized to reap in more profits. Although this may be beneficial to national economies, the plant kingdom is suffering as a consequence. Many orchid species are so hybridized that none of the original characteristics are sustained. These hybrid species, though far more sturdy have much shorter life spans and are hard to reproduce. Moreover, these hybrid species, when accidentally released into the wild, slowly wipe out indigenous species through competition. The greatest sufferer in this race for survival is the white orchid. White is generally a recessive color in the plant kingdom and when white orchids are crossbred with colored ones, there is only a 3:1 chance that the offspring will be white. In fact, most white orchid plants end up with bicolor off springs in their second or third bloom. Naturally, white orchids are generally more abundant on the African continent, although the only pure strain white orchid comes from Thailand. Orchids belonging to the genii Aerangiis, Angraecum, Cyrtorchis, Neobenthamia, and Rangeris are exquisitely white. Orchids provides detailed information on Orchids, Orchids for Sale, Care of Orchids, Growing Orchids and more. Orchids is affiliated with Hibiscus Plant. Artificial Dissemination

Monday, January 21st, 2008

By Tommy Yan Gary is a real estate agent wanting to stay in touch with past clients and current prospects. He wants to publish a newsletter but doesn’t have the staff or the knowledge to produce one. Then Acme Publishing Company enters with the answer. Acme can produce a generic newsletter/CD sent out monthly to his database. It’s a turnkey system. Gary doesn’t have to lift one finger. Just send in his picture with a check. And besides: Acme’s got 217 local clients, been around for a few years, and publishes to 142,745 monthly consumers. Wow! They can print Gary’s picture on the front and back pages with room for some tips or a special coupon. He doesn’t have to do much work after all. The editor completes the rest of the newsletter with her articles, a few ads, and some testimonials. Totally generic. Gary says, “Wow! It doesn’t get any easier. When can I start?” All Gary is responsible for is his monthly article or other insert and a fee. But the consumer differs in opinion… Because I frequently get these artificial marketing materials in the mail. My warning flag goes up. I hone in on the suspected item. After a quick glance, it gets tossed. The companies that produce these generic periodicals target unsuspecting small business owners. They produce a monthly newsletter or CD they mail to the business owner’s mailing list, or given away as a prospecting tool. But it’s a sterile attempt for business owners to connect with their market. Because this has the footprints of a form letter. And you can smell the shallowness a mile away. Imagine receiving the same generic newsletter from competing realtors. Or plumbers. Or therapists. Their uniqueness in the marketplace disappears. And how about business websites? The majority of them begin without any photos for their webmaster so he/she uses generic graphics from other sources to create an image that there are people with suits and ties wearing headsets employed there. And unless you have a low IQ, you’re not going to fall for it. The same is true for my insurance company… They send a monthly newsletter with my agent Sue’s name on top, but she had nothing to do with it. She didn’t write, design, or publish it. So I quickly scan and discard it because I have a relationship with Suenot the head office. Of course, they don’t see it that way. But the way I see itthis creates a major disconnect. Because if you send me a CD, DVD, or newsletter: I only want to hear what you have to say. I don’t really want to know what the editor or publisher writes because I’m not doing business with her. And she doesn’t have my permission to engage me. You do. I don’t want to view those ads that promote other products. I’m not shopping for other products. It appears that Acme Publishing’s mission is to sell me. The truth is: I don’t want to be sold. I want to hear from you. What you have to say. How you can help me with your advice. And what products you’ve used that you can recommend. Remember those snake oil salesmen in the old westerns? They have a magic elixir that will heal every ailment. Well I have now grouped Gary (the realtor from above) with snake oil. But there’s more than one brand of snake oil in their covered wagon… Those schlocky CDs they produce would make you run for cover. One financial rep told me her clients rarely view the prospecting video CD she passes out, but keep because they’re so neat looking. She’s right. It was great eye candy. But that’s an expensive paperweight you don’t want to pay for. Here’s an example: There’s a picture of our realtor Gary on the disc and front flap, but there’s no hint of him on the rest of the CD. Gary isn’t even giving the presentation. Instead, I’m watching actors or models trying to impress me with their fake smiles, pretty gestures, and rehearsed scripts. Consumers can smell the shallow regard and fake authenticity. They dismiss this as mass marketing targeted at everyone. And unfortunately, hitting no one. They’re wondering why Gary isn’t delivering the message. Is he too busy? Maybe Gary isn’t the expert they thought he was. Perhaps they won’t think highly of him anymore. And maybe they won’t recommend him anymore. How to avoid following our real estate agent… You don’t have to spend money with Acme Publishing. When you’re starting out, you can send a flyer and let that be your newsletter. It has your warm authenticity and shows you care enough to stay in touch. It shows the real you. That’s whom people want to connect with. Your heart and soul. Not a mass mailing with ads and filler articles written by people they don’t know. Who wants to connect with them? And when you do have the budget, send an updated version of your newsletter while keeping it personal. People want to hear from you and your staff. They also want to hear about you and your staff. This is the organic juice that’s missing from artificial disseminators who produce a bland product that does little to connect with consumers. Go organic and you’ll remain inside your prospect’s consciousness while making more money. Tommy Yan helps business owners and entrepreneurs make more money through direct response marketing.
