Everyday Uses For Clove Oil-Outside Of Your Kitchen

Monday, April 28th, 2008

By Emma Sanford Experience, Clove Oil for Pain-Killing, Antiseptic Purposes and Antiparasitic. Clove oil is a powerful therapeutic-grade essential oil long known for its anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antifungal properties. Clove Therapeutic-Grade Essential Oil is the highest - scoring single ingredient ever tested for its antioxidant capacity on the ORAC scale. It is also stimulating and revitalizing and is great for dietary, topical or aromatic use. Whole cloves are of course an important cooking spice, and clove oil can be used to prevent food poisoning, as it is able to kill some food-borne bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus. Taken internally, therapeutic-grade essential clove oil is helpful for treating the gas discomfort that often comes with peptic ulcers. This effect has to do with the numbing of pain rather than the actual reduction of gas. Clove oil is also good for numbing the pain of a toothache and can be used in place of conventional numbing agents before dental work. The chief component of clove oil is eugenol, and it has been shown to be as effective as the commonly used benzocaine in numbing the gums. Using clove oil topically spreads warmth and numbs pain. It can be irritating to the skin, so it is a good idea to dilute your therapeutic-grade essential oil with a vegetable oil such as olive oil if you find that you are sensitive to the oil on your skin. Germany’s Commission E has approved the use of clove oil as a topical antiseptic and anesthetic. It’s great to keep on hand for cleaning and numbing small cuts and scrapes and eliminating the pain of toothaches. Clove oil is also a powerful antioxidant and has immune system enhancing properties. This therapeutic-grade essential oil has tested the highest of any ingredient when it comes to its antioxidant capacity. The best clove oil comes from the flower buds of the clove shrub, which is an evergreen native to Indonesia. Some companies make clove oil out of the leaves and stems of the clove plant, which does not make as high quality a product. Clove oil should not be given to infants or children younger than six because of the possibility of stomach upset. When taken internally, it should be diluted, with one drop of therapeutic-grade essential oil added to four ounces of vegetable oil before adding it to a capsule. The same dilution should be used when applying clove oil to the skin. Women who are pregnant should consult with a doctor before using clove oil. For others, clove oil is classified as a “hot oil”, particularly in its undiluted form. People with kidney or liver problems, or who have bleeding disorders or take blood thinners, should not use clove oil. Clove oil is an incredibly useful therapeutic-grade essential oil that is great for stimulating the immune system, easing pain and inflammation and numbing the mouth, meaning you’ll find even more uses for clove outside of the kitchen than you do inside. Always wash your hands thoroughly before and after the use of therapeutic-grade essential oils. Also avoid contact with your eyes. Why Awareness Training Can Give You A Great Marriage

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

By Lee Hefner Most people certainly understand what physical fitness training is for. After all, millions join health clubs at the beginning of every year to lose weight and to get in shape. But ask married couples if they have considered awareness training to improve their marriage and theyll give you a blank stare. The truth is, there is a similarity between training to get in shape physically and training yourself mentally and emotionally to enjoy profound emotional intimacy with your spouse. If youve ever worked out in a sport or simply embarked on a physical fitness regimen, you know what its like to put out repetitive effort and feel the physical discomfort of tired muscles and shortness of breath. And you probably got some sense of satisfaction when you saw the results of your effort. The exercise added to your physical sense of health and well being. Now consider conflicts in your own marriage. A couple fighting stirs up strong feelings which is usually uncomfortable emotionally for both people. Many spouses who have the mental discipline to put themselves through tough physical workouts have tremendous difficulty facing upsetting feelings during an argument with their spouse. But the two situations are similar. How so? If you can face the physical pain in running a distance, then you are capable of facing the emotional pain that comes with marital disagreement. And if you can remain present and face those difficult feelings without defensiveness during an argument, you set the stage for a remarkable recovery toward greater intimacy with your spouse. Consider what happens when you have a fight with your spouse. In the middle of an upsetting argument, you have the momentary opportunity to choose how to respond to your spouse who is pressing your emotional buttons. You can react automatically, in which case you might resort to anger and blaming accusations. Or you can stop, take a deep breath, and ask yourself Why am I feeling this way? In this moment, you have the unique opportunity to break away from your habitual response and gain insight into yourself. It means you can grow as a person, you can set a positive example for your spouse, and you can improve the richness of your marriage. All you have to do is realize a simple process and work on your self awareness. This process has its roots in cognitive psychology where the basic idea is that your beliefs drive your behavior. For example, imagine a couple named John and Mary who are having a fight over whether or not to go out that evening. At some point, John bites his tongue and becomes aware that he started the fight when he became angry, thinking that Mary wasnt respecting his point of view. Then in a flash of recognition, he realizes that growing up, his father never respected his point of view. John shows vulnerability by sharing this insight with Mary. Mary responds by listening with compassion as John tells his story. Finally John realizes that, deep down, he has harbored a fear that his opinion didnt count. He admits that he started the fight responding to his subconscious fear. John shares this insight with Mary and asks her forgiveness for starting the fight. Mary accepts his apology with appreciation and empathy because she now understands what was behind Johns behavior. This moment is a milestone in reaching a deeper level of emotional intimacy between John and Mary. What made it possible was that John was insightful about his innermost fear, he had the courage and the humility to share it with Mary, and Mary was compassionate in her understanding of his emotional pain. Steps to Deeper Intimacy Would you like to have breakthroughs in your marriage like John and Mary? You can achieve deeper intimacy with your spouse by developing awareness based on these principles: 1. What you get in a marriage usually is in direct proportion to what you give. What goes around generally comes around in relationships. When John started the fight, Mary responded with anger. But when John realized what was behind his feelings and asked forgiveness, Mary responded with compassion. 2. Emotions drive behavior. People behave on the impulse of strong feelings. John had a subconscious fear that his opinions didnt matter. That fear manifested as anger which led to him starting the fight. 3. Thoughts generate emotions. The quality of your thoughts determine the quality of your feelings. Johns subconscious thinking was Mary doesnt value my opinion. This low quality self talk led to his negative feelings. 4. Beliefs spawn thoughts. You generally dont think something unless theres an underlying belief supporting that thought. John had carried an unconscious belief since childhood that had affected his marriage up to that point. This belief set the stage for Johns thoughts of self-doubt. The negative belief that John carried led to behavior that hurt his marriage. This same process affects everyones behavior whether they realize it or not. So, what difference does this process make for you and your marriage? The chain of events that can determine the quality of your marriage are: Beliefs > Thoughts > Emotions > Actions > Results How can you use this knowledge in your marriage? Try these steps: 1. The next disagreement you have with your spouse, stop and take a deep breath. Be willing to face the emotional discomfort calmly without blaming your spouse. 2. Then ask yourself Why do I believe in my point of view? and What thoughts are provoking my emotions? 3. Remember that beliefs are not set in stone. You can change them simply by deciding to do so. 4. Humbly consider whether the fundamental belief that drives your behavior should be changed. Just as in shooting basketball hoops over and over, repetition of this exercise leads to mastery of the technique. And just as the sustained effort required to get in physical shape will give you a sense of physical well being, the sustained effort to master this process can lead to marital well being. Stated another way, these beneficial ideas as applied to your marriage are: Sow a positive belief in your consciousness, reap empowering thoughts. Sow an empowering thought, reap uplifting emotions. Sow an uplifting emotion, reap inspired actions. Sow an inspired action, reap an abundant marriage and life. Numeric Pagers

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Richard_Romando]Richard Romando Most popular for personal use, a numeric pager can display “numbers only” - telephone numbers or numeric codes. To send a numeric page, a caller just dials your pager’s phone number and enters his/her own number. The number of the sender shows on your pager, and you know that you need to call him. The storage capacity for received messages in most numeric pagers is 24 digits. Many of them offer silent vibration alerts to indicate the arrival of new messages. Numeric pagers are advantageous due to several factors. They are flexible and work in silent mode without disturbing others in quiet environments. They can work in noisy surroundings and enable users to read messages privately. In order to send a numeric message to a pager, dial the pager number you want to contact on a touch-tone phone. Once you hear the tone, enter the number you want displayed on the telephone keypad. Then press the pound sign (#) to signal the end of the message. The paging service subsequently dispatches a signal to the local paging terminal, which transmits it via radio waves over the entire coverage area. The pager then alerts the recipient pager owner with beeps or vibrations that a message has arrived. Numeric pagers contain a small screen that displays up to 24 digits. Nowadays, you can find models of numeric pagers in various contemporary and fun colors. Some of the models are now as thin as a credit card. As is the case with cellular phones, pagers have become more and more of a commodity these days, with service becoming the key. Many dealers now waive the pager activation charge, or sell the units at a loss to lure new customers. Monthly service fees can range from $10 to $40 per month, with payment on a quarterly or annual basis. A pager costs $30 to $150 depending on the type of pager and accompanying features. You can also lease a pager for a small fee. [http://www.z-Pagers.com]Pagers provides detailed information on Pagers, Numeric Pagers, Alpha Numeric Pagers, Two Way Pagers and more. Gastric Bypass Surgery - Is It Right For You?

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

By Beverley Brooke When we hear all the success stories of the gastric bypass, it sounds so easy. One pricey operation and the pounds just fly off! Right? Not quite. Gastric bypass surgery is only advised to those who are morbidly obese this is someone with a body mass index greater then 40 and men and women between 80-100 pounds their ideal body weight. The gastric bypass is also sometimes recommended to patients suffering obesity along with other conditions such as heart disease or type 2 diabetes. If the surgeon is happy the health benefits outweigh the possible side effects of gastric bypass surgery then it maybe recommended. If you’re currently obese and suffering no other conditions, I would personally think about big lifestyle changes, both in diet and exercise. I know it’s a tough, long haul but with the right support it’s possible to lose over 1lb/week safely and effectively. That’s over 60 pounds of weight loss in 6 months. You must considering the risks involved in the gastric bypass surgery, because even with the surgery you will still be required to follow a rigid diet that you certainly aren’t going to like at first. Try to be objective about all forms of weight loss and weight up your options. There are many success stories out there on the gastric bypass and its beneficial to many people but please always remain open to the basics of weight loss. How to Use Magnetic Marketing to Massively Multiply the Results of Your Advertising

Saturday, April 19th, 2008

By Carina MacInnes It works without fail, every time. It can work with everything you are selling or promoting. It works on the principle of giving before receiving, and of offering more in value than you are getting in cash. Your prospect must perceive an increase for themselves in order to want to interact with you. Magnetic marketing is the technique that does this. Then this same technique is used to convert a prospect to a sale or business partner. What is magnetic marketing? It is a process of attracting leads to you by offering them something of value first. Using ezine classified advertising and solo ads for an example, dont try to close the deal all at once by attempting to drive your prospect to your website. Instead, start by giving the targeted prospect an offer they cant refuse. Using my own business ad copy as an example, here is an ad I ran before I had put the magnetic marketing technique together for this business that is an example of NON magnetic marketing: Catch the Buzz - Discover Revolutionary Health and Wealth! As seen on TV Superfood is now yours to use and make $$ withLow cost! No personal sponsoring to make money! No minimum!Weekly Pay, 100% Matching Bonus, 2×7 matrix, Incredible TeamVisit and learn more right now: http://acai-4life.com Admittedly, the ad copy is not my best, written off the cuff right when I had started with this new company. However this kind of advertising can and does work, dont get me wrong! The thing is, it is only a trickle of results compared to the massive results you can get by incorporating magnetic marketing into your business model. The main problem with this and so many other ads is: they all really want the prospect to get excited and click here without offering anything in return to really motivate them. For about $50 my ad ran and is right now still running to about 6 million ezine subscribers with an audience that is mostly small business and internet related. I got and am still getting that trickle of results. Now how about transforming it into a magnetic marketing campaign? Take that same $50 and micro-target your audience. Since my company pays quite well with retail sales I could find health-related ezines. Then you can either purchase classified ads or solos. Even with a small subscriber base of two or three thousand, you will get a lot of leads and sales. Your new magnetic marketing will now have ad copy reading something more like this: Did you know Free Radicals Accelerate Aging and Cause Cancer?Discover everything you NEED to know about the massive damage they cause, & the most essential antioxidants needed to fight them.Learn little known secrets of health, anti-aging and disease prevention in this free e-course: vitalhealth@robotreply.com (If you like, you can subscribe, the email address and series are real). What makes this ad now magnetic is that instead of trying to make the sale of even driving your prospect to your website right away, your prospect now has the drive to contact you. In doing this, they become your lead. They want to receive valuable information on a topic that interests them. They are plugged into your autoresponder and at the bottom of each valuable article in the series you send them, you drive them to your website. They now see you as a valuable provider of information and are more inclined to visit your website and do business with you. Magnetic marketing works in any type of business or niche category. Give it a try. Put together some relevant content and make a valuable series for your prospects to subscribe to. Your business provides the solution to someones problem. Create a series of informative articles, reports, or ebooks that provides in depth information on the problem and solution. Create an ad that addresses that problem, and propels the prospect to obtain the vital information you will give them for free that is the solution to their problem. Apply this to your marketing campaigns - by offering something of value to your prospects your magnetic marketing will massively multiply your advertising responses, leads and sales. A Date to Remember - Tracked Down by an Ex-Lover

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

By Leif Croonquist A few days ago, I started to receive emails here and there from an unrecognized, strangely nicknamed person from somewhere in the far reaches of cyberspace. My spam filters are pretty good and since I rarely receive spam, I wondered how this seemingly anonymous person could muster up my first name in the subject line. Needless to say, I deleted it. Another similar email came to yet another email address of mine. Like many of us today I have more than a few different email addresses, again my name and intriguingly: “Is this you?” in the subject line. This email address isn’t widely used but for a few friends and family so this little viagra or bad credit refinance spammer was apparently being far too thorough. I opened it and discovered it was an ex girlfriend I had a relationship with about 18 years ago. How nice. How scary. How odd. This person had contacted me using every publicly available email address and seemed to really, really want to talk. Let the blast from the past begin. My first thought was that I would possibly receive an introduction to my heretofore unknown child, now a teenager, asking to meet their long-lost father. With a sigh of relief, the next email I received did not contain such revelations but rather a warm hello and how do you do. How do I do? After 18 years of anonymity I was now the subject of a reminisce. The Internet, while simultaneously shrinking the world of public opinion and instant access to information had also become an avenue for various skeletons in our closets. Like some of us, I do not readily hide myself on the Internet, after all I publish dating and relationship articles like these all over the place. Relationships end when the two parties decide (for whatever reason) they are not right for each other. Thankfully, this particular ex has a little tact and style. Instead of bringing up painful memories or showing me how much better she is doing than me in life or love, she was simply tapping my shoulder to see where my path had taken me. All in all, not a terrible thing. What was not expected, was to lift these emotions off the shelf I had put them on so many years ago, dust them off, and give them a thorough revisiting. I had put that relationship away many years ago, apparently like a lot of us, I hadn’t dealt with the feelings I had left behind until now. Let me tell you, those feelings stay right where you left them. I found myself dealing with emotions I literally haven’t thought of since the day we broke up. I also soon remembered what it was that attracted me to her. Now after 2 weeks of light internet chatting, I am fairly resolved NOT to meet her. I am afraid that meeting her will magically teleport me back into loving her and after all, hadn’t I been there before? Could things change? Would I date her again? These are things I was not willing or prepared to think about. Now, with her reappearance, I find myself faced with new issues and feelings. Luckily she caught me single. What if I was married or had a current girlfriend? She might be angry, suspicious, or jealous that an old flame had contacted me. So now there would have been another unexpected situation I would be forced to deal with. Was it rude for her to connect with me? No, I dont think so, I am a fairly open person. After all she and I were in love at one time. What if it were a different ex that had contacted me? There are certainly ex girlfriends I would NOT want to reconnect with. So in this regard I was lucky again. The Internet has made connecting and re-connecting far easier than ever before. In fact it is now effortless, but the question I beg is should we contact old flames just because it is easy to do so? We have to think about the other person’s life and the effect it may cause them before we do. This only gets more true as time goes on, your life has changed significantly, surely theirs has as well. What impact will your casual hello have on them? It could be wonderful or catastrophic. For all you readers thinking of your lost loves (many of us do from time to time). Think long and hard before contacting them. Was the break up amicable? What were the circumstances? In these cases, maybe you should simply pop into their lives and say hello, check in see whats going on. If the break up was a horrendous, painful explosion, or bitter it is best to leave it on the shelf. Memories come back in a flash, and if they are bad memories, then there is a fairly good chance the reunion will be painful as well. The best approach if you ARE going to contact an old flame is to contact them with a short email identifying yourself and then simply wait. Nothing long or heartfelt, just identify yourself, they know who you are. The ball is and should be in their court and if you haven’t heard back after a week or so then there is a good reason for it. You must be able to let sleeping dogs lie. Not all stories end happily ever after, nor should they. Leif Croonquist is 34 years old and lives in Portland, Oregon. Enticing Butterflies To Your Garden

Monday, April 14th, 2008

By Mary Hanna Enticing butterflies to your garden is fun and simple too. Butterflies are easy to attract to your garden if you plant a garden where the caterpillar (pupa step) has plants to eat and then the butterfly has flowers from which to sip nectar. Butterfly gardens are simple to plant and will provide you and your friends and family a chance to peek butterflies in their natural environment. The basics are an open space with tons of sunshine and a location that is not windy. Choose a spot with lots of sunlight with a few rocks or stones that can warm up on which the butterflies will bask in the afternoon sun. Strive to locate your garden close to hedges or shrubs that will aid in shielding them from the hardy winds. If it is too windy, the butterflies wont stay around for any length of time. The hedge or shrub needs to develop food for the caterpillar. You can find out what the caterpillar likes best from your Nursery Garden Center. Butterflies relish mud puddles where they can drink the water and soak up minerals. A patch of moist soil will make them joyful. Most urgent of all is that the garden be pesticide free. Some gardeners like to utilize pesticides to chase away unwanted pests, unfortunately it will keep the butterflies from visiting your garden too. Plant your butterfly garden in a cranny where it will be free of chemical pesticides. Worthier still, ask your Garden Headquarters about organic gardening. Flowers with nectar are a need for a butterfly garden. When planting these nectar sources try to put in plants that will provide nectar throughout the growing season since these are the origin of subsistence for the butterflies. Dont discount shrubs and wildflowers. Roses, geraniums and lilies have no nectar so plant them somewhere else. Have your garden assorted to allure a the greater quantity of butterflies. Another ingredient for the butterfly garden is a source for larva food. The caterpillar needs food to develop into a butterfly. If there is no food present they will die. Plant some herbs for both of you. They love parsley, dill, and fennel for their meal. What herbs they dont eat you can collect for home cooking with fresh herbs. A butterfly garden can also be planted in containers. Purchase some elegant pots and plant them with flowers that retain a magnificent bouquet as well as vivid pretty colors (available at your Garden Center). Petunias, daylilies or sweet alyssum will do the trick. Of course the butterfly bushes are a given, or plant some hanging baskets with Impatients (shade will be necessary). Some gardeners like to fashion there own feeder and solution. And it is easy to do. Put 4 parts water to 1 part sugar in a pot, bring it to a boil and cook it until the sugar dissolves. Bring it to room tempetature. Use a container that is somewhat shallow, drench a paper towel with the solution and position it in the garden receptacle. Deposit a stone in the garden container so the butterflies have a seat to rest on while they are feeding. This would be a great project for the kids. Have them maintain a diary of each of the various species that stop by your butterfly garden. Let them look up the butterflies on the computer to understand all about each special butterfly and it becomes not only enjoyable, but a learning experience besides. Because there are so many growing zones in the United States you will want to speak with your Nursery Headquarters for suggestions of what plants to utilize for attracting butterflies in your individual zone. There is an ancient American Indian Fable about butterflies: To have a dream come true you must seize a butterfly. Whisper to the butterfly what your request is and then set it free. This tiny messenger will carry your wish to the Great Spirit in the sky and it will become true. What a great folktale. Happy Gardening! Copyright Mary Hanna All Rights Reserved. Overwhelmed and Overworked: The Myth of American Productivity

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

By Virginia Bola, PsyD Employment finally seemed back on track during the first few months of 2004. Politicians crowed that “Our tax cuts are working.” Then, without warning, job growth slowed to a crawl, resulting in a deficit of more than 2 million jobs from that confidently predicted only a year ago. To counteract that dismal performance, public emphasis turned to another indicator, productivity. The reported increases in American productivity are quite genuine. Individual worker output collectively rose, from 2000 to 2003, by a full 12 percent. Definitely a bonus for Wall Street - but what about Main Street? As the meticulous research of the Economic Policy Institute shows (Snapshot, 09/08/04), real family income fell, over the same period, by 3 percent. Contrast this with the economic period of 1947 - 1973 when productivity and real family income moved in tandem, both doubling over those years. What does this suggest? Americans are working harder and longer for less family income. As companies downsize or fail to replace workers who leave or retire, fewer staff are left to handle the workload. In fear of losing their own jobs, they respond by accepting new duties and new responsibilities and the added work time that accompanies them. In a world where employees are tethered to their workplaces virtually around the clock, by laptops, cell phones, and blackberries, the traditional balance of home and work has crumbled. There is a tendency to believe that such pressures are only operative for the ambitious, career-obsessed, “Apprentice”-like, ladder climbers. In fact, the sixty-hour-plus workweek affects a substantial portion of all salaried workers, even down to front line supervisory staff. The American worker, surveys clearly show, is becoming overwhelmed, over-tired, and fed up. Access rates for outpatient mental health services rise steadily each year. Family disruptions include increased estrangement, divorce, emotional child neglect, and domestic violence. Health problems multiply, fueled by fatigue, stress, and a lack of time for self-care. In the vaunted new technical world, where leisure time was to be expanded to historic proportions, we are working longer, harder, and more diligently than ever. Where can we look for answers? We can look at ourselves, identify our priorities, and learn to spend our time on what is important to us and let the rest go. More critically, we can speak up to make sure that social legislation and the tax code create similar priorities: to reward those companies who staff adequately and flexibly and provide benefits and resources to their employees. At the same time, we need to negatively impact companies who pursue such activities as job outsourcing, retiering of job titles to avoid overtime costs, dependence on temporary (usually none-benefited) labor, and the quiet acceptance of third world manufacturing of their products under sordid conditions, the use of child labor, and payment of slave wages. CEO salaries are running more than 130 times the median worker salary. Viewing the ethical and procedural problems of major corporate figures, now mired in the legal system, Americans must start to ask whether equality and opportunity for all is still a viable creed. Resistances To Marketing a Practice-Part 1

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

By Juliet Austin If you are a therapist, counselor, or an alternative or complementary health practitioner (naturopath, homeopathetic doctor, massage therapist, body worker, etc.), in all likelihood, you are not only uninformed about effective marketing methods, but you are also likely to have some negative feelings about self promotion and marketing. When it comes to marketing a practice, knowing how to market effectively is essential. However, all the marketing knowledge in the world wont be of use to you if your resistances and fears get in the way of marketing. The most common resistances that helping and healing professionals have about marketing are outlined below. Fear of being rejected You may be concerned you are not skilled enough to attract clients for your private practice. Worries that people will be disapproving Perhaps you are concerned that if you market your practice, peers and potential clients might judge you or the services you offer. Fear of failing If you fear failure, you might avoid taking the risks necessary to succeed at marketing. Fear of being seen as aggressive This is a widespread fear that stems largely from of the misconception that marketing is about intruding upon others. Concerns about being seen as self-serving This fear stems in large part from the idea within the healing professions that your goal is to be there to fulfill your clients needs and not your own. In addition, you might believe that marketing your services means that you are “bragging.” Fear of lacking in knowledge and skills to market a practice sucessfully Obviously if you have never studied marketing, you may have concerns about your ability to do so effectively. Fears of being successful You could fear success because of a belief that you are undeserving of it. Perhaps you also fear that if you do succeed in private practice, your life will be different and you might not like the change that occurs. If you identify with any of the above resistances and fears and want to overcome them, read part 2 of this article, “Overcoming Resistances to Marketing a Practice.” Juliet Austin, 2004 Bio of Author Juliet assists helping and healing professionals (coaches, therapists, counselors, massage therapists, chiropractors, etc.) who are struggling to build their practices.
